From Goa to the world

The cashew journey

Cashew is one of the most beloved fruits across the globe. This tropical plant is widely popular for the exquisite taste of its nut and its high nutritional value.

The Anacardium occidentale tree is native to the equatorial region of South America. It was planted in East Africa by the Portuguese and subsequently brought to Goa and the other tropical states of India's western coast in the 16th century.

Around 450 years ago the plant was brought to Goa to prevent soil erosion and has since become an integral part of Goan life. Cashew fruit is allowed to ripen and fall naturally, helping farmers derive several by-products from the cashew apple while enhancing the taste of the nut.

Today Zantye's stands as a major cashew processing enterprise and was among the first to employ organic cultivation methods. Alongside regular cashews, the flavours introduced over the years have become popular snacks across the country.

A traditional technique

Drum roasting of cashews

Handpicked cashew nuts are sun-dried and roasted to perfection in a pierced drum rotating over a fire. These nuts are then broken open, sorted and packaged by hand. Only a limited number of packs are produced each month to create an exclusive Goan cashew experience. These fragile cashews are available only at our exclusive retail outlets.
